Reward and Recognition

This paper takes into consideration reward, recognition and its effect on employee motivation at Pakistan Housing Authority. Reward and recognition serves as important driving force behind successful companies. If employees are rewarded and recognized for their efforts it will enhance their motivation level. This in turn will make employees perform effectively. Reward and recognition are potent tools which can increase motivation. Considerable balance is required between organizations and its employees, employees should keep in view their dedication towards the company similarly company needs to be considerate towards its staff.

The aim of this research paper was to determine the relationship between rewards, recognition and motivation at PHA. Data was collected from employees using questionnaires with close ended questions, then data was analyzed using Excel and results were presented in tables. Table 1.1 shows that employees were agree and satisfied with factors of rewards, recognition and motivation, however two factors of reward had lower mean values which means that although employees gave positive response but improvement needs to be done in promotion and benefits factor of rewards. Similarly table 1.2 shows the total mean values of reward, recognition and motivation, the results in the table shows that most of the employees were agree and content with all three variables.

Table 1.3 holds correlation analysis results. The results show that there is a very strong relationship between reward and motivation and a very strong relationship was found between recognition and motivation, the results are showing that both variables are positively correlated and statistically significant relationship is present.

Chapter 1 Introduction

Reward system is an important tool that management can use to channel employee motivation in desired ways. The present study is going to investigate current reward, recognition and employee motivation of PHA (Pakistan housing authority). The secondary aim of this research is to know the employee perception regarding to reward and recognition system of PHA. Employee feedback will be recorded with the help of questionnaires. Reward and recognition play vital role to increase the motivation level with in any company.  In other words, reward systems seek to attract people to joint the organization to keep them coming to work, and motivate them to perform to high levels. The reward system consists of all organization components – including people processes rules and decision making activities involved in the allocate of compensation and benefits to employees in exchange for their contribution to the organization.

The primary focus of reward and recognition program is how organizations define their reward schemes and communicate this in a manner that employees clearly understand the link between reward and performance (Flynn, 1998). Effective recognition enhances employee motivation and increases employee productivity all of which contribute to improved organizational performance (Deeprose, 1994). Baron (1983) argues that there is a close relationship between motivation and job performance. The challenge of informal rewards is to find the right match between the individual and the recognition given, as the psychic income of being openly acknowledged and appreciated equals or exceeds the material, monetary income.
